The Joys of Andermatt in Summer

The Joys of Andermatt in Summer

30.04.2021

Uela! We are very lucky in the Swiss Alps as there are plenty of resorts that offer year-round fun, and Andermatt in the heart of the mountains is no exception. Whilst being renowned for its extensive winter offering, Andermatt has fast become a destination for the warmer months too, particularly popular with walkers, cyclists, golfers and nature lovers. The village has been undergoing an impressive 1.8 billion CHF transformation recently, paying homage to its history whilst adapting to the modern way of life. It’s no wonder therefore that alpine property buyers are increasingly choosing Andermatt as somewhere they can own a holiday home.

We’ve put together a short guide as to what’s on offer, to include the latest developments we are currently selling here…

Where is Andermatt?

Set within the Uri mountains of the Swiss Alps, the village of Andermatt is located at the centre of the Alpine region 1,444 metres above sea level, and is easily accessible by plane, train and road.

What is there to do?

Outdoor Activities

Andermatt is home to a whole host of activities that allow you to be at one with nature during the summer. You will definitely find that you will be spending most of your time outdoors!

Golfing is very much a key part of village life here, with the Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course hugely popular. This stunning multiple award-winning ecologically designed course boasts 18 holes and if you become a member through the partner club GC Andermatt Realp before the end of May 2021, you will not only have access to their 9 hole golf course, but you will also receive a 25% discount on the regular price of CHF 3,900.

There’s also an attractive network of hiking trails, rock walls and mountain peaks ideal for walking, running, climbing, mountaineering, cycling and climbing. Key highlights include crystal-clear mountain lakes, panoramic views of the ‘Three-Thousanders,’ eight passes for the ultimate racing challenge, cableways that take you across the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis region, fishing and even lama trekking!

Indoor Activities

There’s also a variety of things to do indoors if you need a break from the sunshine. Perhaps you’d like to relax and unwind in the wellness centre the Uela Spa at the Radisson Blu hotel, or prefer to build up a sweat beforehand in 25m indoor swimming pool. Day passes are available for non-hotel guests. The 5* hotel, The Chedi Andermatt, also provides a sumptuous wellness oasis.

Culture

For those with an ear for music, the Andermatt Concert Hall offers a variety of concert series from young musicians from around the world, whilst museums, antique dealers and art galleries provide an interesting insight into Andermatt’s history and the region’s diversity.

Shopping and Amenities

When walking through the village you will find numerous boutiques and shops to explore, plus a tourist information centre which we always recommend you visit the first time you travel to Andermatt. The supermarkets and an amazing butchers called Metzgerei Muheim (who also sell Alpine cheeses) are some superb choices for your daily food shop. Plus there’s a dentist, doctor, hospital, chemist, post office and various churches, banks and ATM’s on your doorstep.

Restaurants

You will always have an option depending on your mood in Andermatt when it comes to cuisine. No matter your taste buds or budget, the village offers a diverse range of eateries such as gourmet restaurants, traditional Swiss inns, cosy pubs, family restaurants and rustic fondue eateries. Particular favourites of ours include The Japanese by The Chedi Andermatt hotel, Gummel and Nätschen. Alternatively click here for many more fabulous options available to you.
