Bring on 2024: exciting times ahead for Crans-Montana

21.12.2023

At the end of a tumultuous year in global events we are looking ahead to a promising 2024.

It’s been a great start to the winter here in Crans-Montana which we hope bodes well for this season.

Just a fortnight ago, it was announced that Vail Resorts has acquired a majority stake in Crans-Montana. The American corporation that owns 41 other ski resorts globally is acquiring 84 per cent of the lift and mountain operations, and 11 restaurants. Read the Financial Times article here
This news has been welcomed by locals, investors and visitors to the resort who look forward to lift upgrades and improved piste management that Vail Resorts is renowned for.

Vail Resorts’ CHF 30m investment over five years will begin in 2024 – nothing obvious will change this winter season but they’ve made some significant improvements in Andermatt in the 18 months since they acquired a majority stake in the resort.

Interest has already picked up in the resort from across the Pond and also from European home buyers. As we emerge into a new year with much uncertainty around geo-politics, Swiss property remains the stable ‘safe haven’ investment it historically has always been, and interest rates remain relatively low: 2 per cent for fixed rate deals. Crans-Montana is seen as excellent value when compared to other prime Swiss resorts, with enormous scope to grow.

What to buy In Crans-Montana

A lack of supply of second homes characterises many Valais ski resorts, yet in Crans-Montana we are able to source apartments for holiday home usage, chalets to renovate, serviced apartments or superb turnkey homes.

Nestled in the heart of one of the most prestigious neighborhoods of Crans Montana, we have a three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment ready to move into, for CHF 1'540'000.-. Alternatively, on the edge of the forest in the popular area of Lens, just below the town, is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom turnkey apartment with a garage that can be used a second home, for CHF 2'300'000.-.

f you prefer the idea of a brand-new chalet, also in the commune of Lens, we have a super luxury chalet being constructed with an indoor swimming pool, home office and six bedrooms, for CHF 12'900'000.-, suitable for Swiss residents. It will be completed in October 2024.

Not in a rush? Completing in 2025 will be a luxury three-bedroom apartment in a similar location, for CHF 2'278'000.-.

Opportunities for primary and second homes

Alpine Homes can source exceptional properties across the Alps. And now through our Swiss Homes arm, in the city of Geneva, through Switzerland and around the world

These include Andermatt (also known as Andermatt-Sedrun), that continues to attract international buyers due to the wide availability of second homes there (it is only Alpine destination in Switzerland to be exempted from Lex Koller regulations) as well as the five-star Chedi Andermatt and the golf course. A fully furnished two-bedroom apartment is available for CHF 2'950'000.-.

Verbier remains top of many buyers’ wishlist, and whilst second homes are in very short supply, we have a three-bedroom apartment for sale at CHF 3'200'000.-. Your money will go slightly further in Nendaz, although you can still enjoy the same Four Valleys ski area as Verbier, and a pretty six-bedroom chalet is for sale at CHF 2'750'000.-.

Alpine Homes, Swiss Homes and the USA

A trend across both tourism and real estate has been an uptick in American interest, especially with Vail Resorts increasing their interests in Switzerland. We will be visiting the Colorado resort over the Christmas period to cultivate key relationships.

Qualified and multilingual staff passionate about ski property bring an extensive knowledge and experience to the table, enabling them to provide personalized and attentive client care.

We hope you have a great Christmas and a prosperous 2024 – and look forward to helping you acquire your dream home.
